Adolescence is the most crucial phase in everyone’s life. It is a period of physical, emotional, psychological, and social changes. Transitioning from a teenager to a young adult might come with risks since teens tend to be vulnerable to almost everything.

These risks or challenges in these crucial years are vital as they will greatly affect your behavior and perceptions as you transition to adulthood. Hence, it is just valid for one to recognize the typical challenges as well as develop the skills needed in order to overcome them.

Adolescents need to understand the challenges and problems they encounter during the middle and late adolescent stage mainly because of character and behavior development that will be essential in their adulthood.

These typical challenges include seeking independence, school demands, and peer problems. One of the reasons teenagers find it hard to meet these challenges is because of rapid physical and emotional changes.

This makes them astounded, anxious, and pressured to the point that some of them even consider using drugs and alcohol to cope with these obstacles.

Dealing with these challenges alone is like fighting a formidable opponent that can’t be defeated.

Youths need to seek someone who they can rely and get support from. It can be anyone who’s willing to listen and provide advice. Guidance is the key for a teenager who’s going through hard times.

But sometimes guidance is not the only thing one needs to overcome these problems on their own, this is where the skills enter.

The skills one needs to develop to handle the demands or challenges that come in one’s way are vital in order to become a responsible adult.

These skills include knowing one’s values, making precise decisions, being assertive, and believing in oneself. Setting up plans and being empathic might help one to solve challenges. Teenagers need to know that we’re always one decision away from a totally different life.

Becoming an adult can be overwhelming to many teenagers. It is mostly because of society and family expectations and as far as I know, failure is not in the vocabulary of today’s youths.

Having prior knowledge about the typical challenges and having the skills needed to overcome them is significant as it will indicate what kind of adult you would turn out to be.
